Waiting for mail

Your address is being set up.

Need an email address just long enough to pass a verification step? Use the one at the top of this page. Paste it into the form, keep this tab open, and the code or confirmation link will appear in the inbox below, usually within seconds. You have 30 minutes.

Get your code in three steps

  1. 1

    Copy the address

Press Copy at the top of this page, or click the address itself.

  2. 2

    Ask for the code

Paste the address into the site’s form and submit it. Leave this tab open.

  3. 3

    Use what arrives

The message appears here without a refresh. Copy the code or open the link, then go back to the site.

Codes and links behave differently

When an email talks about a code, the inbox looks for one and shows it with a Copy code button. That works for numeric codes of 4 to 8 digits, including ones written like 123 456, and for letter codes such as AB12CD when the email labels them as a code. If nothing is picked out, open the message and copy the code by hand.

A confirmation link needs one extra click: open the message and press the link, which opens the site in a new tab. Stay on this page afterwards if you can, since sites often send a welcome email next, and that sometimes holds the link you actually need.

The code itself is usually on a shorter clock than the address. Sites set their own limits and many allow only a few minutes. If you asked for two codes, use the newest, because on many sites a new code cancels the old one.

Check these before you verify

  • Will you log in again later? If the site signs you in with emailed codes or links, you lose the account when you lose the address
  • Is the site also asking for a phone number? This inbox only handles email, so it can’t receive a text message code
  • Is it a one-per-person offer? A fresh address doesn’t change that rule, and sites can cancel accounts that break it
  • Does the email contain anything personal? Free inboxes are shared, so keep sensitive sign-ups on your real address

Temporary email for testing your own app

Developers can use the same inbox to check sign-up, verification and password reset emails from a real sender. Name the address after the test, like qa-reset-flow-7, and you can see the delivered message as a recipient would, including how long it takes and whether the code gets picked up. You also avoid building up old test accounts on your own mailbox.

Keep test data fake while you do this. A free inbox can be read by anyone who knows the address, so real customer details and working credentials don’t belong there.

Frequently asked questions

How long does a verification email take to arrive?

Usually a few seconds. If nothing has come after a few minutes, check that the address on the form matches this one exactly, press Refresh, and ask the site to send it again.

Why wasn’t my code shown automatically?

Detection looks for numbers of 4 to 8 digits in messages about a code or verification, and for letter codes the email labels as a code. An unusual format can slip through, so open the message and copy the code from there.

Can I get SMS verification codes here?

No. This is an email inbox, so it can’t receive text messages, and it can’t get you past a step that asks for a phone number.

Does this work on every website?

No. Some sites block known temporary email domains. Press Change to try another domain once, and if the site still refuses, use a permanent address there.
